At Santa Lucia Eye Clinic, we use LenSx femtosecond laser technology, which guarantees the safety, accuracy and speed of the process during the most delicate steps of the operation.

LenSx is a fully integrated piece of equipment, guided by images and designed specifically for refractive cataract procedures.
It allows us to view, customize and realize several of the most complicated steps of cataract surgery.

Benefits of LensX laser surgery

It allows

The eye to look natural, given that it can achieve the exact size and shape of the artificial lens, providing a better postoperative outcome.

LensX laser

Replaces most of the steps usually carried out manually during a traditional cataract surgery and offers security and confidence during the procedure.

It offers

The possibility to correct other existing problems at the time of surgery such as astigmatism.

A cataract is what happens when the crystalline lens, which is the “lens” of the eye, becomes cloudy and affects the vision. It is important that the crystalline lens is transparent in order for the retina to receive a clear picture, if the lens is cloudy because of a cataract, the image you will see will be blurry.

Most cataracts are due to aging, although they can actually occur at any age and in one or both eyes. It is definitely not a contagious disease and can therefore not be transmitted from one eye to the other.

Cataracts generally develop due to an accumulation of protein in the lens of the eye that reduces the clarity of the image reaching the retina.

The most common symptoms of a cataract are:

  • Blurred or opaque vision.
  • Vision fading of colors.
  • Seeing flashes.
  • Not seeing well at night.
  • Double vision or multiple images in one eye.

At the initial stage of a cataract, symptoms can be improved with sun reflectors or magnifying lenses, but surgery is the only effective treatment.

The surgery involves removing the cloudy lens from the eye and replacing it with an artificial lens to help see better. A specialized ophthalmologist will review your case and carefully explain the procedure and how to take care of your eyes.

Most interventions last between 15 and 30 minutes. However, the exact duration depends on the kind of intervention that will be performed. This is an outpatient procedure, which means that you will probably be discharged the same day of the surgery.

Cataract surgery is one of the most common, safe and effective surgeries. In about 90% of cases, people who undergo cataract surgery can see better after surgery and do not present any complications.
